In chapter 1 of this study, I mainly focused on the perceptions of the selected teachers’ and parents regarding practicing differentiated instruction. As teachers, it is important to cater to individual learning needs. As Tomlinson (2008) mentioned, differentiated instruction provides students the learning opportunities in a way that fulfills their learning needs. On the other hand, Westberg and Daoust (2003) stated that their survey shows that teachers find it very difficult to differentiate their instructions in a daily routine.
In chapter 2 of this study, an extensive review of the literature about differentiated instruction is explained.
For better understanding and to get reliable answers for further study for this research, a literature review is an important component. This literature review described differentiated instructions from five different aspects:
1- History and background of differentiated instruction
2- Principles of differentiated instruction
3- Strategies of differentiated instruction
4- Challenges for applying differentiated instruction
5- Development and advantages of differentiation
After discussing theses five aspects, a summary of the importance of using differentiated instruction methodologies is reviewed. After that, a brief summary is given to conclude this literature review chapter.
