Face ID Technology
The technology that enables Face ID is some of the most advanced
hardware and software that we’ve ever created.
How Face ID Works?
Each
time you glance at your phone, the
TrueDepth camera system will detect your face with a flood illuminator, even in
the dark.
An infrared camera will then take an image, and a dot projector
will project out over 30,000 invisible infrared dots to create a depth map of your face and also captures
an infrared image of your face.
Your iPhone X (or newer) will check scans (or mathematical models) of
your face against the one you've setup and stored on your device to see if it's
a match, and if it is, it will unlock your phone or authorize a payment on Apple Play.
Is Face ID safe?
According to Apple,
Face ID will recognize you even if you grow a beard, wear glasses
or a hat after Face ID is set up. Compare that to Touch ID, which often
refuses to work if your finger is wet (rain or workout) or has a cut on it. If there is a more significant change in your
appearance, Face ID confirms your identity by using your pass-code before it updates your face data. This makes Face ID
much more accurate and reliable in specific scenarios.
