Social Studies And History
Social
studies curriculum includes the learning of society. Social studies help the
students to gather information and learn about the society. As well as social
studies allow to learn how society and people operated a few years ago to a few
thousand years ago. Without History really the current social studies would be
very difficult. History is the critical aspect in human nature to record and
memorialize our past events.
The study of history is important because it
allows one to make more sense of the current world. One can look at past
economic and cultural trends and be able to offer reasonable predictions of
what will happen next in today's world. One can also understand why some rules
exist in the modern world.
To achieve these
goals, the curriculum of social studies includes different strands and sub
strands of history in each key stage. Some of them are:
Culture
and Identity
People, places and environment
Communication and participation.
Every grade social studies book
has different topics on history. For example, in grade 1 book there is a topic
on culture. Students have to gather information about the dresses worn by past
and now. And also they have to gather information about different countries
clothing. From these we can know the relationship
between social studies and history.
Conclusively, the
relationship between History and Social studies is that they
both needed each other to be understood. History is definitely apart of
Social studies.
