Sub-strand: Society and The Environment
The Environment and Society specialization within the Geography major provides students with an understanding of the reciprocal relationships between social and environmental processes. Environmental geographers are concerned with how human beings use the earth and how humans impact the environments in which they live.
Guest speaker is a person who has been invited to present a speech at an event where they are not the host.
A guest speaker supports a topic that you may know little about and can offer your students a different point of view, one that they may better understand. It gives them the opportunity to learn something new, while it gives you a break. You may find that you end up learning something new in the process.
Guest speakers make lessons interactive. Students are able to ask questions and receive answers that may not be available in a textbook or on a video. Adding a guest speaker is a productive way to help students get a clear understanding of the points the teacher is trying to highlight.
Generally, guest speakers add to the event by sharing an outside perspective, giving support, or by providing entertainment (or all three)! The key to being a successful guest speaker is to deliver a message that resonates with the audience and be easy to work with.Generally speaking, the shorter the better. A really compelling presentation is usually not a full day speech. A motivational speaker is usually 60 to 90 minutes and a break out sessions can be a little bit longer.
Guest speakers have become an important part of the educational experience for students. They expose students to real-world life experiences from the position of someone who has been there.
Research indicates that it helps students build important connections between what they are learning and the real world.
The following are the basic advantages of the Guest speakers method: It provides an economical and efficient method for delivering substantial amounts of information to large numbers of student. It affords a necessary framework or overview for subsequent learning, e.g., reading assignments, small group activities, discussion.
